BMD Baseball Camp Coaches Clinic Mission Statement

When: December 4th from 12pm to 3pm

Where: La Paloma Resort

Presenters: UofA Head Baseball Coach Andy Lopez, current MLB players, Jordan Brown and Shelley Duncan

What makes the University of Nebraska football program powerful year in and year out? The main ingredient is home-grown talent….High schools in the state of Nebraska run the same offense as the University of Nebraska, thus creating confidence and comfort within the system. Young players are bred within the state, generating a cyclical force of talent on a year-to-year basis, ready to plug in to the program. BMD’s vision is to create the same atmosphere in Tucson, starting with the little leagues all the way to high school, simultaneously reinforcing the Wildcat program. Please join Andy Lopez, Jordan Brown, and Shelley Duncan for a few hours to pick their brain and discover why they became successful in this mentally demanding game.

Head Coach Andy Lopez is in an elite class of collegiate baseball coaching, winning championships at Dominguez Hills (Division II), Pepperdine, and the University of Florida. In his second year as head coach at the University of Arizona in 2004, Lopez led the Wildcats to the World Series, restoring the glory days in the late 80’s.

One of Lopez’s players, Jordan Brown, was an All-American during his tenure and was taken in the 4th round of the 2005 MLB draft by the Cleveland Indians. He’s won 2 league MVP awards in 4 minor league seasons along with 2 batting titles in AA and AAA. Brown made his major league debut on August 1st, vs. Toronto.

Shelley Duncan, one of Tucson’s finest, holds the UofA record for career homeruns (55), and was also an All-American as a Wildcat. Duncan was selected in the 2nd round of the 2001 draft by the New York Yankees and made his MLB debut in 2008, breaking camp with the team. Shelley was named the AAA player of the year in 2007 and 2009, and was a large part of 2 league championships. He currently is a teammate of Brown’s with Cleveland Indians.

The trio will be available all day, speaking and answering questions regarding the mental and physical demands of today’s baseball. Covering issues about protecting the youth, to making the game and practice fun while learning, and creating productive drills, these 3 have been through it all. Please join us to help strengthen the community and provide a pipeline to the University of Arizona baseball program. Learn what Coach Lopez preaches to his players and the intangibles that made Brown and Duncan the players they are today at BMD.

Growing up in this city, we have learned the passion for this sport is unmatched throughout the state. Little League and high school baseball has helped shape our careers into positive success stories. Our vision is to reinforce Arizona baseball by working hands on and sharing the resources we had to create an atmosphere of championship baseball. The University of Arizona has given so much to us and our careers, and now it’s time to give back. The mental and physical drills we learned to maximize our careers will be passed on to Arizona’s youth to help breed an even stronger UofA program. Please join us and capitalize on our teachings…

•Provide youngsters from little league to high school with the essential fundamentals and good sportsmanship in baseball at every level.

•Provide parents/coaches with imperative skills to help assist their children with essential baseball drills and injury prevention.

We also realize the importance of parent/coach understanding of the game of baseball. In fact, we encourage parents and coaches to hang around and also learn from our tactics and speaking. We will have a table set up by “ProActive Sports Physical Therapy” to further educate parents and kids on injury prevention and proper conditioning. After the campers leave, who will continue to aid their learning of vital drills, fundamentals, and injury prevention? We hope the parents take the initiative and learn from our teachings. After all, most great players have one thing in common – great coaching.
